Holy Week

The last couple of months have seen plenty of events happening here at the Stift, not least of which was Holy Week, of course. The Triduum celebrations went well this year in the Stift and the community greeted the Easter Halleluia with real joy, which makes up for some of our singing!

Easter Monday Dinner

To wind down after the Sacred Triduum, several members of the community decided to host a dinner for the Juniorate, similar to the dinner we host every year on the Feast of St. Stephen. Lots of people chipped in and made it a wonderful event, all the more pleasant and memorable for the presence of Provost Bernhard.

Dom Clemens takes a break from the roast and checks out the assortment of aperitifs made by our Mixmaster, Dom Daniel. Intriguing colors.

Doms Gabriel and Meinrad taste a green concoction made by Gabriel - it wasn't bad!

For some reason the Provost thought Angostura Bitters made a fine drink all on its own! Here our guest Gray Boyd discusses its virtues with him while Dom Alipius looks on

Dom Hugo waxes eloquent with the Provost over dinner while Clemens tries to get him to stop while he is ahead

Fr. Davis Kalapurakkal Finishes his Doctorate

Our community congratulates Fr. Davis upon the completion of his doctorate degree in spirituality at the University of Vienna. Fr. Davis, a native of Kerala, India, has been living here at the Stift these last few years and working on the degree. In celebration, there was a Mass celebrated in the abbey church in the Syro-Malabar rite, a rite found in India. Afterwards there was a reception in the Binderstadl featuring Indian cuisine.

50 Years of the Conference of Religious Superiors of Austria

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Conference of Religious Superiors of Austria. The celebration was held here at Stift Klosterneuburg and drew religious superiors from all over Austria. The head of the Conference is Provost Maximilian Fürnsinn of the canonry of Herzogenburg.

The Chapter meets and approves simple and solemn vows!

On May 7th the Chapter met to discuss official business and to vote on members to be approved for vows. We are delighted to report that Dom Albert Maczka was approved for solemn vows! Dom Albert hails from Poland and is presently working in the parish in Bergen, Norway where he is known for his pastoral zeal and irrepressible energy.

Dom Meinrad, Albert's classmate, requested and was approved for an extension of his triennial simple vows in order to continue his discernment.

Doms Nikolaus and Ignatius, this year's novices, were both passed for simple vows.

We congratulate one and all!

The Cloister garth gets a serious facelift

Some years ago the garden in the cloister was paved over in concrete in the hopes that this would reduce the moisture which was causing problems for the foundations of the church. Unfortunately it did not serve its purpose and all that was done was to create a remarkably unattractive space in the middle of the Stift. This year the project was undertaken to restore the garden. The concrete was removed and a garden has been paid out. It is soon to be officially inaugurated by the Provost. Below a couple of pictures of its progress.
