Augustini 2006

This was by far our busiest Augustini celebration yet!

With 7 new novices, 3 solemn professions, 2 simple professions, and a diaconate ordination, we were bouncing off the walls all week long!

Clothing of the New Novices

On Sunday evening, the 27th of August, before we celebrated first vespers of the feast of Saint Augustine, we accepted 6 new novices into the chapter, plus a guest novice from another congregation of canons regular,  the Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception. With a total of 17 novices and juniors this year, we are literally bursting at the seams.

The habits await their new owners

The candidates present themselves to the Provost at the Verdunar Altar...

...and ask to be allowed to enter the novitiate.

Off with the old man...

...and into the new - first comes the collar...

...then the cassock...

...Sarozium...

...and the surplice and biretta.

Meanwhile, Allan is vested by his superior, Fr. Cassidy, from the Immaculate Conception canons.

Finally, the new novices are fully clothed and ready to take their new places in choir.

Processing out of the church in all their glory.

Alipius approves!

Profession of Simple Vows

On Monday, the 28th of August, at the Pontifical Mass of the feast of Saint Augustine, last year's novice class -  Doms Albert and Meinrad - made their simple profession.

The candidates await their call.

Albert and Meinrad are called to stand before the Provost.

The Provost gives them his blessing...

...and a copy of the Rule of Saint Augustine.

Having made their profession, Meinrad and Albert then sign their handwritten copy on the altar before the Chapter and the congregation.

Simple Profession Text:

I wish to live for three years in the Community of Stift Klosterneuburg in service to the People of God.  In the presence of our Lord Provost, Bernhard Backovsky, my brothers, and the Christian people, I promise to God Almighty a life of chastity dedicated to God, in poverty and in obedience, according to the Rule and Way of Life of our Holy Father Augustine and according to the Constitutions of the Austrian Congregation of Canons Regular.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Profession of Solemn Vows

At the same Mass, Doms Clemens, Elias, and Josef made their solemn profession and became full members of the Chapter, dedicating the rest of their lives to God in the community of Stift Klosterneuburg.

The candidates are called before the Provost - first Dom Clemens...

...then Dom Elias...

...then Dom Josef.

The candidates prostrate themselves as the Litany of Saints is sung...

...then they kneel before the Provost and make their solemn vows.

Solemn Profession Text:

I wish to live the rest of my life  in the Community of Stift Klosterneuburg
in the service of the People of God.  In the presence of our Lord Provost, Bernhard
Backovsky, my brothers, and the Christian people, I promise to God Almighty a life of chastity dedicated to God, without private property and in obedience, according to the Rule and Way of Life of our Holy Father Augustine and according to the Constitutions of the Austrian Congregation of Canons Regular.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The candidates then go to the altar and sign the documents of profession.

They receive a blessing from the Provost...

...then it's time for their new rochets and sashes...      with tassels.

The Provost himself clothes them in their mozzettas.

And finally, they exchange a greeting of peace with the brethren.

Time to go...

Goodbye to Clemens and Elias
