A Death and a Tale of Two Ordinations:

Dom Lukas to the Diaconate and Dom Markus to the Episcopacy

So much has happened, but before getting to the ordinations, we must report a sadder event: the death of Ad. Rev. Dom Koloman Harasta, senior member of the Austrian Congregation of Canons Regular and of the chapter of Klosterneuburg.

Ad. Rev. Dom Koloman Leopold Harasta

On September 23, 2005 Dom Koloman passed away at the age of 91, after 65 years of priestly service.

Dom Koloman's assignments included the abbey parish as well as Maria Hietzing in the 13th District of Vienna. He was known to be a zealous priest and during the Second World War, an outspoken opponent of the Nazi regime.

Please remember him in your prayers.

Dom Lukas' Diaconate Ordination

On Saturday, the 15th of October,  Dom Lukas Lorf-Wollesen, a native of Hamburg, Germany, was ordained to the diaconate.  The ordination was carried out by Bp. Gerhard Schwenzer, administrator of the Diocese of Oslo, Norway.

NB: Most of the photos below were taken by Dom Reinhard Schandl, so we are grateful to him and want to make sure he gets special mention and a "cameo" below!

Oslo and the Ordination Weekend of Dom Markus to the Episcopate

The weekend of October 22nd was a memorable one for Stift Klosterneuburg as approximately 25 members of the community traveled to far away Oslo, Norway for Dom Markus' episcopal consecration.  The brethren were excited by this singular honor to the community, as well as pleased and delighted by their Norwegian adventure.  This writer is unsure if sweet, little Oslo will recover from an onslaught of 25 of the Klosterneuburg brethren, not to mention numerous laypeople who came from Klosterneuburg!  But hope springs eternal, and Dom Hugo, a native of that city, assures me that Oslo has seen worse, though perhaps only under the Vikings.

The official events were the consecration Mass itself on Oct. 22, then that evening the new bishop officially took possession of the cathedral.  The next day, Sunday, he held his first pontifical Mass in the cathedral.  The mood among the people throughout the weekend was excited and hopeful.  At an official dinner on Sat. night, many speeches and toasts were held expressing the joy of the clergy and faithful of the Diocese of Oslo at Markus' consecration.  Clearly he inherits some very dedicated clergy and laity.  Hopefully the pictures below will give some idea of the excitement.

Again, special thanks go to Dom Reinhard Schandl
