Diaconate Ordination

On All Soul's Day, we celebrated the ordination of Dom Hugo to the Diaconate in the Stiftskirche. Bishop John Willem Gran, the former Bishop of Oslo, Norway, came to celebrate the ordination.  Dom Hugo will serve as deacon in the Stift's parish, assisting Dom Walter and Dom Clemens.

Leopoldifest

One of the principal feasts on the Austrian calendar is the feast of St. Leopold, the Patron of Austria, on the 15th of November.  St Leopold has a special significance for Klosterneuburg; he founded the Stift in 1114 and is buried here. His relics, enshrined above the Verdun Altar, have centuries made Klosterneuburg a place of pilgrimage.  Below are a few photographs from the Solemn Procession and Mass from the Feast of St Leopold.

Bishop Egon Kappellari, the Bishop of Graz-Seckau, celebrated the Solemn Mass for the Feast of St Leopold. Our Provost, Generalabt (Abbot General) Bernhard Backovsky (in purple) accompanies him.

Dom Hugo, our newly-ordained deacon, incenses the Choir.

A much needed restoration of the choir stalls, which has restored them to their former splendor, was completed just in time for this year's Leopoldifest.

On festive occasions, the tintinabulum, or processional cross with bells, leads the liturgical procession. The cross is in the shape of a Chi Rho (XP  - the first two Greek letters of the word Christos, that is, "Annointed".)

On the Feast of St Leopold, the relic of his skull adorned with a crown (!) is carried in procession. Here Dom Georg prepares to carry the holy relic.
