The Propst bears the monstrance in the

procession follow the celebration of the Mass.

This year's processions were accompanied heat and humidity at the beginning and rain at the end.  Like our lifelong journey with Christ, the path was not always comfortable or carefree.  But He was and is always with us.  At the conclusion of procession it is the usual custom to have a parish feast, an Agape.  This too has its great symbolic value for our life's destination is the great Wedding Feast of the Lamb, the joyful and everlasting celebration of love and belonging that God has prepared for us and in which He invites us to partake.

Propst Vollnhofer of Reichersberg and Propst Backovsky of Klosterneuburg

The purpose of these days is to give the canons of the six houses of the Austrian Congregation a chance to meet one another and to grow in a deeper appreciation of their common vocation.  Whether during lunch or in the exhibition or the splendid baroque garden, the canons shared with one another their joys and struggles, hopes and dreams for their houses and the order.  The culmination and summit of day's events was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Children helping children.

The Propst receives a contribution from local children,

bringing the total support to 1,000,000 Euros for the street children of Romania.

"A Home for Street Children", the project of Jesuit father Georg Sporschill, puts the Gospel into action in a place for so long bereft of hope due to poverty, cruelty and stupidity.   Since 2000 Stift Klosterneuburg and its parishes has financially supported this worthy effort.  The Chapter of Stift Klosterneuburg chose this project because all the money goes to help the children.  Moreover, all the money collected by the Stift on behalf of this program goes to the children.  All the administrative costs are borne by the Stift.

Fr. Sporschill began helping the street children of Romania in 1991, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and end of the regime of Nicolai Ceaucescu.  This beautiful work of Christian charity has clothed, feed and housed hundreds of Romanian boys and girls, giving them a chance where none others was to be found.  Already many of the children have become young adults and these continue to assist Fr. Sporschill in caring for the younger children.  Beyond the children, who have found a home in the City of Children in Ploiesti, many others have received meals, medicine and a place to sleep during the cold winter nights at the newly opened social center St. Lazarus in Bucharest.

The expense of these projects is considerable.  Thus the support of the Stift and its parishes is vital to the realization of this vision of hope.  Stift Klosterneuburg has financed the construction of two homes in the City of Children, the Casa St. Augustine and Casa St. Leopold as well as the St. Lazarus Center.  Moreover the annual contributions of Stift Klosterneuburg and its parish provides funds for the day to day operation of the entire project.

The direct investment of 175,000 Euros annually plus the free will contributions and fund raising undertaken by Stift and its parishes reached the 1,000,000 Euro mark on May 24, 2004.

This project continues the long tradition of Stift Klosterneuburg's engagement in social development.  Some of the more notable examples include the founding of several towns on the periphery of Vienna, including Floridsdorf, named after Propst Floridus Leeb, and the generous support given to other religious houses in the 20th Century.
