A Novena in Honor of St. Augustine
Heavenly Father who orders all things for the good of Your children, through the intercession of St. Augustine grant to the canons regular who do battle beneath the banner of the cross and under the guidance of his rule of life, the strength to persevere until death in the pursuit of holy perfection in the priesthood. May the sacrifice of the altar and the sacrifice of praise they offer bring grace to the world and conversion to sinners. Grant further, oh Father, to those who on the feast of Holy Augustine will be clothed in the holy canonical habit, the grace necessary to live exemplary lives of sacrifice, love and obedience. May they know daily the joys of a perfect observance and on that day of resurrection and reward, may they enjoy for all eternity the bliss of the heavenly liturgy. As they praised you with their lips and their lives on earth, so may they praise you perfectly in heaven. We ask these things through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Dom
Clemens' Report from Bergen, Norway
Dom Alois and I traveled to Bergen to see the new house
and check on the renovations. It is no simple task to renovate a house
built in 1916, but it is harder still to do it from Austria. It is a
beautiful place in the center of the city, right on a beautiful park.
Unfortunately, the park is currently principally occupied by local drug addicts.
Nevertheless, it is beautiful.
Bergen itself is a city on the west coast of Norway. The city is actually
further north than Scotland, so the winter is very dark, and apparently it gets
a tremendous amount of rain. A smallish city, Bergen is a manageable and
attractive place to live, with lots of young people and a lively atmosphere.
The possibilities for apostolic work are exciting.
We were assisted in our work in the house by a friend of Dom Markus, a fashionable, local lady, Counsellor Bente Frimann-Dahl. She thought some of the touches added to the house thus far..."Interesting...", but what can one expect from men?! Dom Alois took the criticisms in good humor, and we all went to a nice supper. We also had the place inspected by our candidate, Einar Tesdal. His family lives in the area, so he joined us for the day and looked the place over; "kicked the tires", as it were. He too found some things "Interesting," especially some of the relics bequeathed us by the former occupants, religious sisters. Next time we shall know better than to ask the opinion of our candidates!
I was impressed by the dedication of the staff of St. Paul's, especially the headmaster of the parochial school. It looks to be an excellent institution. The people are excited at the prospect of having the canons come to Bergen. After our brief visit, we too are excited at going.
P.S. Enjoy the photo montage!

The Chapel...not yet finished - our cleaning ladies would NOT approve! No
cooking in the chapel!

curiosity the "interesting" carpet left us on the stairs. 1970 lives

We shall be on retreat in Vorau during the week of August 17th, during which
time the novices will prepare for simple vows and the novice candidates for
clothing and reception into the community.
