What is new at Klosterneuburg:

Juniors from different houses

Every year the Canons Regular of the Austrian Congregation have a get together at one of the six houses of the congregation.  Our Congregation is relatively young, not even one hundred years old, though all of the houses are much older; in most cases they are 800 years or older!

Fr. Clemens and Markus                Rudolf and Helmut

The purpose of this day, like the purpose of the congregation itself, is for us to express our mutual support and encouragement as men called by God to live the Canonical life.  So on this day, there is time for a bit of study, prayer and fraternity.

The Current and Former Abbot Generals of the Austrian Congregation:

Abbot Bernard Backovsky of Klosterneuburg and Abbot Wilhelm Neuwirth of St. Florian

This year the Canons Regular of St. Florian hosted our "Chorherrentag."  Canons from the five other houses, Herzogenburg, Klosterneuburg, Neustift (in Italy), Reichersberg and Vorau traveled to St. Florian, which lies just outside of Linz in Upper Austria.  The theme for the day was St. Florian, who is the patron of Upper Austria.  He and his companions martyrs are amongst the oldest canonized saints from this of the world, going back to the time of the Roman Empire.

The day began with a talk on St. Florian and was followed by a visit to St. Florian's special "Year of the Bible" exhibit.  We joined together for lunch and thereafter traveled to the basilica of St. Lawrence in Enns-Lorch (right), a church whose foundation lie on a Roman temple, which later become a parish church, a cathedral and then again later a parish church.  In fact, the diocese of Enns-Lorch, though suppressed, is still the seat of a titular bishop.  The day concluded with Mass and we thereupon bade each other farewell until next year.

To mark this event, we were invited for a tour of the site and a reception held by the Provost to thanks the workers for their efforts.

Also on this occasion the Project Manager, expressed his thanks to St. Barbara, who is the patron saint for protection construction workers from accidents.  Happily we have had not injuries at this major and challenging site.  In thanks, the Project Manager gave the Propst a bronze statue of St. Barbara!
